Bergdorf Goodman

Bergdorf Goodman

Perhaps the poshest, and rather surprisingly, one of the more comprehensive department stores along Fifth Avenue. Bergdorf’s couture clothing collection is paired with more ready-to-wear options, along with elegant accessories, bedding, and a housewares section. High tea at BG Restaurant every day completes the wonderfully sublime Bergdorf’s experience.

There is only one Bergdorf Goodman store in the world, a globally renowned institution located at the world’s crossroads of fashion at Fifth Avenue and 58th Street among New York City’s leading flagship stores, providing a singular experience in fashion and unparalleled service for the world’s most discerning customers. Iconic windows draw sophisticated shoppers inside this New York landmark. Housed in the art deco building (on the site of a former Vanderbilt mansion) are eight floors of elegant couture and high-end designer collections for women and, across Fifth Avenue, three floors for men. A salon, restaurant and café are available, should you need to unwind following an afternoon of power shopping.

Name a heavy-hitting designer, and you’ll find it here; the latest from Gucci, Chanel, Oscar de la Renta, and the like mingle with younger brands like Rosie Assoulin and Gabriela Hearst. There’s also an uber-luxe homewares section, entire floors devoted to beauty and shoes, a full-service salon, a bridal atelier, and a pastel-hued restaurant with views of Central Park and a menu heavy on entreé salads.

Upper East Side society doyennes and their teenage daughters, brides-to-be putting their registries together in the housewares section, and chic European tourists.

Any secret tips?
Don’t skip the beauty floor in the basement. During the holidays, the window displays are often as much of an attraction as what’s inside. And keep an eye out for sales—there are deals to be found twice a year
